A meeting was called by the President of the Rutgers Fire Company, Mr. John Manning, on Wednesday, February 17, 1960, for the purpose of organizing a ladies auxiliary. Mr. Manning introduced five members from the Unionville unit. Mrs. Laura Hanford, the president, gave a brief summary of how their auxiliary functions and also read the by-laws of their auxiliary.
Vera Malcolm was elected President; Gladys Brink, Secretary; and Mary Ford, Treasurer.
A motion was made and seconded that the auxiliary hold meetings on the third Wednesday of each month. The second meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary was called to order on Wednesday, March 16, 1960, by president Vera Malcolm, Fannie Butter field was elected Vice President, Edna Decker, Margaret Manning, and Anna Mack were elected to the Board of Directors. During the previous three meetings, it was motioned and approved that the meetings be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The tradition is being observed to this day.
As the current members of the Ladies Auxiliary embrace the future, we will continue to strive to uphold the dignity and dedication of our founding members. In dedication to all who have served before us, we give our gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for everything that has been accomplished thus far and we look forward to another Sixty years of prosperity.
